Airpark Toastmasters – President | Anthony Contreras

About Anthony

Hi, I’m an average kind of guy who likes to work out, hike, read, read, read, then read some more. I am the founder of i2i Marketing and I attribute my success in business to the skills I learned in Toastmasters. Our club is special because of our members’ professional and personal lives. Our members include business owners, stay at home parents and professionals all with one goal: to be better communicators. And did Toastmasters help them? You tell me, over the years members have created their own radio shows, appeared on network TV, interviewed in magazines and newspapers, and one even created her own job promotion, using the skills learned at Airpark Toastmasters. If that interests you and you think that this could help you in your career or business why not stop in as a guest? We meet every Thursday at noon. We can’t wait to meet you!

Past President – Jackie Das

About Jackie

Jackie Das is a financial analyst at West Pharmaceutical Services, a medical device company. She also runs a business which focuses on providing coaching and practical tools for people (especially women) trying to reenter the workforce after a long absence. She is passionate about bringing about the best in people and believes that we are all more capable than we think we are and all it takes is for someone to believe in us which is what Toastmasters is all about. She advocates strongly for Toastmasters in all aspects of life and believes the program is an essential component of leadership.

President’s Role

The President of a Toastmasters club is, essentially, the club’s CEO, providing the leadership and guidance the club needs to meet its standards and to become a Distinguished Club. The President is responsible for making sure that the club provides the supportive environment its members need to fulfill their self-development goals; that members benefit from the Toastmasters educational program; and that the club has a solid plan to recruit new members and retain current ones.

Outside the Club Meetings

  • Attend district-sponsored club officer training.
  • Ensure that other club officers are meeting the standards set by Toastmasters International.
  • Oversee the club’s plan to ensure club becomes or remains a Distinguished Club.
  • Encourage communication and leadership development by promoting the Competent Communicator, Advanced Communicator, Compentent Leader, and Advanced Leader awards.
  • Ensure the club has an ongoing membership-building program.
  • Attend and vote as the club’s proxy at district council meetings, or authorize another club member to do so.
  • Attend the regional conference and International Convention and vote as the club’s proxy or send your proxy vote to the district governor.
  • Oversee the administrative operation of the club in compliance with the Club Constitution and Bylaws.
  • Maintain relationships with the district officers and with Toastmasters International.
  • Schedule and chair monthly Club Officer meetings.
  • Arrange for a replacement if unable to attend a club or executive committee meeting.
  • Search for leaders, ensure all club offices are filled for the succeeding term, and ensure that timely elections are conducted.
  • Prepare their successor for office.

During the Club Meetings

  • Ensure the meeting starts and ends on time.
  • Make sure guests are warmly and enthusiastically welcomed and introduced.
  • Spend time before and after the meeting speaking with guests.
  • Read the club mission at every meeting.
  • Discuss the Distinguished Club Program and the club’s progress and achievements within it.
  • Recognize member achievements in Toastmasters and in their personal lives.
