Timer

One of the most important lessons to be mastered in speech training is that of expressing a thought within a specific time frame. All Table Topics, Prepared Speeches, and Evaluations are timed to give the speakers the opportunity to practice conveying their message within the time they are alloted.

Before the Meeting

  • Confirm the lengths of the prepared speeches
  • Prepare a brief explanation of your role in the meeting

During the Meeting

  • Time the prepared speeches
  • Give audience two minutes for written evaluations following speeches
  • Time the evaluations
  • Time the Table Topics presentations
  • Give your report for each section of the meeting, as requested by the Toastmaster, Table Topics Master, or General Evaluator

When giving your report on the formal speeches, it helps to announce the requested time and the actual time (minutes and seconds) spoken. It is not necessary to announce the exact times for Evaluators or Table Topics participants; it is sufficient to simply note whether the participant qualified or not.
